When size matters for ladies
For some guys, they are clueless when it comes to deciding the carat for the diamond. So, how big should the diamond be for it to be perfect for your engagement/proposal ring? Unfortunately, there are no standard guidelines to which size you should choose as it is again, your personal choice. BUT (before you give that frowning look on your face), as a general guide, to choose the best carat weight of diamond for the ring, you would have to consider the size of her finger and cut.
Diamond rings would relatively look the same in a box or in the jewelry store display, hence some brain cells are needed here to imagine. Firstly, observe both the size of her fingers and hands. Are they skinny and tiny or big and round? If her hands and fingers are small and skinny, a diamond of 1.5carat and below would be enough to make the diamond appealing and obvious while a diamond over 1.5carat would mean too much for her to handle. On the other hand, if her fingers are long, a 1carat diamond would looked relatively small and could potentially go unnoticed (guys, be warned!). In my opinion, small fingers do not require large diamond (so find a wife with small fingers! Just kidding.).
In addition, cut can affect the impression of size due to the illusion it portrays. To reiterate, Emerald cut diamonds appear longer and Asscher cut diamonds appear shorter and smaller.
Lastly, we must emphasize here that the above is only a rough guide, and the decision is still yours to make. Please make time to access her preferences as she may prefer larger or smaller diamond due to her personal own taste or lifestyle. So do not blame or quote us if she complains that the diamond on the ring is too small even when she has petite hands. Just do your due diligence and choose the one she would like the most.
If you want to give her an absolute surprise, start to survey her in every indirect methods you can think of. And, if you plan this carefully, you can get the answers that you want without even raising any suspicions.
